Germany: land of beer, sausage, and bad analogies
I have to take my shoes off to count the number of times I've heard Vladimir Putin compared to Hitler and the South Ossetia War compared to 1938 Munich in the past few days (everything that ever happened before 1933 is cordoned off with "Here be dragons.") Putin strikes me more as the Bismarck of our time.

Indeed. If you listen to the Left, Hitler has a *lot* of modern clones. 9_9

I don't remember Bismarck going around invading his neighbors, making provocative military maneuvers (Bear flights) or having his enemies killed.

Putin ain't Hitler. More like a minor Tsar with a bad scowl. Or a mid-level bureaucrat under Breshnev.

Sailing off to a doomed rendezvous with the British North Atlantic Fleet?

Oh, you mean the other Bismarck. Never mind ... :)

Is Putin the problem?

Is there any truth to South Ossetia seceding from Georgia, Georgia says "no" militarily and Russia came in on behalf of Ossetia?

Pretty close. Georgia had actually signed an agreement granting South Ossetia autonomy, but not more than a week later Georgia attacked. It took a while before the media in this country acknowledged Georgia started this war.
